Why are you an effective Advisor? Mark shares experience gained from over 37 years in agriculture, from dairy farming to working in industry covering ruminant nutrition to farm accounts software and the last 14 years in consultancy working with farms, estates, corporate and government bodies. His approach involves a practical, common-sense way of working gained from having farmed himself to using commercial, nutritional and analytical skills. This along with over twelve years consulting work, gives him a combination of experience to help you make better, more informed, decisions. He delivers both financial and technical advice predominantly to the dairy sector. Providing financial advice involves analysing business performance, benchmarking, discussing future options and creating specific budgets including cashflows. Technical advice involves dairy nutrition, infrastructure and water pollution or interpretation around carbon footprints and climate change. Work frequently includes a review of the office system, accounting records, preparing budgets and cashflows, or is out on the farm “in wellies” giving a hands-on practical view. He has helped with evaluation of existing and new enterprises, advised on stewardship, setting up joint ventures and contract farming agreements and preparing expert witness reports. He has worked with water authorities and government bodies advising farmers on water pollution, environmental matters and farm infrastructure covering compliance, SSAFO regulations and the newer Environmental Land Management Schemes. Some of his most rewarding work has included helping clients buy farms, completing new unit development, helping win grants and on a more personal note converting family-owned redundant farm buildings into a successful holiday lettings business.
